SUMMARY:Finding Our Footing: A Day of Perspective and Possibility\, Halifax
DESCRIPTION:When the ground keeps shifting\, it’s easy to feel unsteady. In the middle of change\, many of us feel tired\, stretched thin\, and unsure of the path ahead. This one-day training is a chance to pause\, regain your balance\, and step forward with fresh perspective and renewed purpose. \nIt’s designed for front-line staff\, but everyone who cares about building inclusive communities is welcome: service providers\, community partners\, government staff\, families\, and community champions. \n  \nWhat’s on the agenda \nWalk a Mile in My Shaky Shoes with Matthew Corkum. A PhD\, alpine skier\, mountain biker\, and award-winning speaker with cerebral palsy\, Matthew shares his lived experience growing up in rural Nova Scotia. He’ll talk about the barriers he faced and how support providers can help break them down instead of building them up. His talk ends with a Q&A. \nSocial Capital & How to Operationalize It with Brenda Gillette and Jeff Gillbank of BC. Brenda and Jeff bring more than 65 years of combined experience\, including leading an organization through deinstitutionalization. They’ll show how the connections between people can become solid ground to build on\, and how to move social capital from a nice idea to the cornerstone of how your organization supports people. \nFinding Our Footing: Voices from the Path: Nobody knows the path better than the people travelling it. In this panel\, self-advocates share their experiences of support\, community\, and change in their own words: what’s working\, where the barriers still are\, and what real inclusion looks like from where they stand. Come ready to listen\, learn\, and ask questions. This is a chance to hear directly from the people at the heart of this work. \nWhen and where\n📍 Monday\, October 26 | Cineplex Bayers Lake | 9am–4pm \nRegister: https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/ticketing/nsclo-sector-training-day \nLunch is included. \nThere are dedicated tickets set aside for self-advocates\, families\, and anyone for whom cost is a barrier. Please contact coordinator@nsclo.ca for more information \nCome find your footing\, reconnect with your why\, and leave ready for what’s possible.
